The Heidelberg Ion-beam Therapy Center started treating patients with PANTECHNIK sources
Supernanogan ECR ion sources from PANTECHNIK are producing intense C (4+) and H3 (1+) beams for Hadrontherapy, the ultimate Cancer therapy technique with hadrons. About 200 µA of C (4+) and 700 µA of H3 (1+) can be produced by both sources. The beams, after extraction, are injected in an accelerator complex capable to bring the ions up to energies of 400 MeV/uma (for carbon) and 240 MeV/uma (for protons), corresponding to about 75% of the speed of light. Hadrons, differently from photons, are more efficient and precise, in acting directly on cancer cells with minimum damage of neighboring tissue. HIT started patient treatment the 15th of November. ![]() Supernanogan bench at HIT

Richard GELLER PRIZE: In recognition of outstanding contributions to the development of ECR (Electron Cyclotron Resonance) ion sources and to encourage promising young scientists, PANTECHNIK ‐ the world leader in commercial ECR ion sources ‐ awards the "Richard Geller PRIZE" on the occasion of ECRIS workshops. This prize will be awarded for the second time during the 19th Workshop in Grenoble (2010). An ad‐hoc Geller Prize Award Committee will choose the winner of the "Richard Geller PRIZE". Nominations of candidates (who will be under 41 years of age on December 31, 2010), should consist of no more than a one page description of the nominee's research work and up to three additional references who may be contacted by the committee, should be submitted to the committee chair, Dr. Richard Pardo ( This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it ) by July 1, 2010.
