The new hybrid Superconducting / Permanent magnet ion source PK-ISIS is being commissioned at Pantechnik. This new source can produce intensities exceeding 1.5 mA of Oxygen 6+. PK-ISIS is conceived for reaching optimum performances at 18 GHz RF frequency, having 2.1 T axial Binj and 1.32 T radial field in the wall MEASURED, a large plasma volume, variable Bmin via an independent coil and a large and opened extraction region. Moreover, PK-ISIS integrates modern design concepts, like RF direct injection, DC-bias moving disk with a new design, out-of-axis oven and axial sputtering facility for metal beams. The axial magnetic field is produced via Low Temperature Superconducting (LTS) coils whilst the radial field by an ensemble - with volume equivalent to 40 liters - of Fe-Nd-B permanent magnets. The three coils are cooled by a single cryo-cooler (cryogenic-free technology), allowing simple and easy maintenance. The total power consumption of the magnetic circuit is, therefore, less than 20 kW. This ion source is, therefore, ideal for using in high voltage platforms. |

Richard GELLER PRIZE: In recognition of outstanding contributions to the development of ECR (Electron Cyclotron Resonance) ion sources and to encourage promising young scientists, PANTECHNIK ‐ the world leader in commercial ECR ion sources ‐ awards the "Richard Geller PRIZE" on the occasion of ECRIS workshops. This prize will be awarded for the second time during the 19th Workshop in Grenoble (2010). An ad‐hoc Geller Prize Award Committee will choose the winner of the "Richard Geller PRIZE". Nominations of candidates (who will be under 41 years of age on December 31, 2010), should consist of no more than a one page description of the nominee's research work and up to three additional references who may be contacted by the committee, should be submitted to the committee chair, Dr. Richard Pardo ( This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it ) by July 1, 2010. Award : Award Certificate and 4,000 €. |
